There no longer seems a need to explain why this issue is so important; we have all been living with water shortages for long enough. Water efficiency, water harvesting and water re-use are all areas to be considered for our homes. The aim is that some homes will be completely self-sustaining when it comes to water use and others will use dramatically less than a conventional house.
