Sustainable Housing

Sustainability is now a much used word. The challenge for us all is to put the words into practice! Brendan and Vanessa believe it is vital the building industry and home buyer all consider how we can build and live in our homes in ways to improve our own wellbeing and that of our environment. They have found during their on and off site research that sustainability encompasses much more than energy efficiency. Key issues to consider are:

Passive Solar Design

Energy Efficiency

Water Conservation

Material Selection

Site Management

Reduce, Re-use, Recycle

Landscaping

Active Energy Systems

Community

Community

You may have noticed in the ‘values statement’ that Wild Homes values community. The reason that Brendan and Vanessa see this as linked in with Sustainable Building is that ‘Community” is about being connected to others. Without this connection the importance of caring for the environment and each other may diminish. Being a part of a community can encourage the sharing of resources, it can stimulate the growth of the health and wealth of the community. If that sounds airy fairy…..! practically it means that Wild Homes tries to support other business in the local area and tries to build homes within the local area. Brendan and Vanessa aim to be connected to others both locally and further afield and aspire to design and build homes that will encourage people to relate to each other.
