Sustainable Housing

Sustainability is now a much used word. The challenge for us all is to put the words into practice! Brendan and Vanessa believe it is vital the building industry and home buyer all consider how we can build and live in our homes in ways to improve our own wellbeing and that of our environment. They have found during their on and off site research that sustainability encompasses much more than energy efficiency. Key issues to consider are:

Passive Solar Design

Energy Efficiency

Water Conservation

Material Selection

Site Management

Reduce, Re-use Recycle

Landscaping

Active Energy Systems

Community

Site Management

Building can have a heavy impact on the local environment also. Wild Homes aims to minimise this impact by using less disruptive construction methods on sensitive sites. Existing vegetation will be preserved as much as possible. On a job by job basis carbon credits or similar can be purchased to offset any vegetation loss.
This is also available to clients to offset the inevitable carbon production of the building activity regardless of any vegetation loss. Whilst purchasing of such products (or organising to personally offset carbon emissions through tree planting for example) is not encouraged to justify environmental pollution it is a positive response to the footprints that we all inevitably leave.
